Adobe, maker of popular game platform Adobe Flash, has taken further steps toward supporting the HTML5 standard and iOS devices by adding exporting options to its Flash Media Server product. Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5, released this week, allows producers of Flash video content to automatically export to HTML5 using the same assets, which will let that content to be played on devices that do not support Flash (including Apple's iOS line of products). The news follows the company's recent preview of Edge, its new tool for helping Flash developers create web content and games in the emerging HTML5 standard in a familiar Adobe interface. The HTML5 standard has been gaining momentum as of late as an alternative to Adobe's Flash platform, thanks in part to the popularity of Apple's iOS. Apple says it will never support Flash due to "technology issues." Adobe recently updated another of its products to add HTML5 support: a June update to its Flash Builder suite enabled cross-platform development for Flash, iOS and BlackBerry PlayBook devices.
