Newsbrief: Game Accessibility Guidelines, a web-based resource dedicated to helping game developers integrate options for disabled players into their games, has been honored by the FCC's Accessibility and Innovation Initiative. The resource, launched in September 2012, is utilized by indie studios, AAA companies, educational courses and funding programmes. It aims to teach developers about the importance of adding options for disabled players into their games. Contributors to the website include Barrie Ellis, director at OneSwitch.org.uk; Gareth Ford-Williams, head of accessibility at the BBC; and Lynsey Graham, a game designer at Sega. At the M:Enabling conference this week, the website was awarded the Chairman's Award for Advancement in Accessibility from the Federal Communications Commission, noting that over 20 percent of players have some form of disability, and as such, advancements made in accessible communications are enhancing the lives of millions.
