Newsbrief: China's State Council this week lifted a 13-year ban on game consoles, meaning that manufacturers can now officially build and sell consoles in the country. Game consoles were banned in China at the turn of the millennium, following concerns that they were harming the physical and mental development of children -- although in reality, consoles have continued to be sold unofficially in China. Now consoles can be officially sold in China, reports Bloomberg, as long as they are manufactured in the new Shanghai free-trade zone. Both Sony and Nintendo are exploring the possibilities, while Microsoft has already formed a new multi-million dollar games venture in the country.
