Germany's browser-based gaming company Gameforge today revealed that it is set to realign its current studio structure, eliminating 100 jobs in the process. In a statement, the company explained that the realignment follows the merger of Gameforge and Frogster earlier this year in August, and is key to making a "sustainable future" for the studio. As part of the realignment, Gameforge has decided to cancel development of HellBreed and Mythos, and is also considering shutting down development of Star Trek: Infinite Space if it cannot find a co-publisher. Alexander Roesner, CEO at Gameforge, explained, "Through a more efficient organizational structure, we can optimize our use of resources and great potential for further growth increase. This will strengthen our long term position in the dynamic market for online games." The company said instead of keeping the current divisions of "client-based games" and "web games," the Gameforge Group will be split into "development" and "publishing" divisions. The development division will focus on internal development, the publishing side will be in charge of "the games portfolio and platform strategy." 100 staff positions will also be terminated, with the company noting that adjustments to the workforce were "inevitable" in light of the restructure. The company's website notes a headcount of 450, though that may be prior to the layoffs. "We take responsibility for our employees very seriously and strive to find a socially responsible solution for the affected team members," said Roesner.
