Gamasutra has heard from multiple sources that Gameloft has effectively shut down yet another game development studio, this time in Seattle, and laid off staff less than a year after opening the office last November.
One source estimates that roughly 15 people were laid off as Gameloft Seattle ceased developing games this week. It's yet unclear if the studio will be repurposed as a sales/support office with a much smaller staff, or if it will close for good.
This is the latest in a string of shutdowns for Gameloft, which confirmed earlier this month that it had closed 7 studios this year as part of an ongoing cost reduction program to address 'disappointing' revenues.
Among them were Gameloft New York City, shuttered in July after 15 years of operation, and Gameloft Tokyo, which was gutted this summer after releasing its first game.
Gamasutra has reached out to Gameloft for more details on what happened to Gameloft Seattle and why, but we expect no meaningful response. If you or someone you know was affected by this event you can contact Gamasutra to tell your story in confidence.
