Developers who use the GameMaker engine will be able to submit and sell their games via a dedicated application on Windows, Mac, and Linux -- with a beta launch coming later this month.
Today, YoYo Games announced the beta launch of GameMaker: Player, a downloadable storefront application for games created with its GameMaker: Studio engine package. The beta is expected in the back half of this month, and will support Windows, Mac, and Linux. All GameMaker developers will be able to export their games to the Windows version of the store, but a pro license for the software and export licenses will be required for Mac and Linux. GameMaker: Player supports early access and distribution of both free and paid games. Paid games will be subjected to a review process by YoYo before going live. YoYo plans to take the industry-standard 30 percent cut of the revenue games generate on its new storefront service, a screenshot of which you can see below. It has also announced plans to allow customers who have purchased GameMaker games on Steam to access them via its own app down the road. GameMaker: Player will launch alongside GameMaker: Studio 1.4, which is also due to be released later this month. For more, check YoYo's official announcement and GameMaker: Player FAQ. These aren't the only updates YoYo has rolled out this year; the engine is now compatible with the PlayStation 4 and Vita, as well as the Xbox One. The company also launched an asset store for developers in August.
