Gamification company BigDoor today announced that it has acquired San Francisco-based community network OneTrueFan, as a means of expanding its current services. The OneTrueFan development team is now working on a new loyalty platform based on BigDoor's APIs, which will be launching next month. As part of the acquisition, the current OTF widget and browser add-on will no longer be updated, although its current functionality will remain intact. OTF co-founders Todd Sampson and Eric Marcoullier have previously worked on games site IGN, social network MyBlogLog and social media API aggregation company Gnip. BigDoor said in a statement that it will be using the OneTrueFan team to focus on building and maintaining its rewards program, called BigDoor Rewards. The program will offer developers analytics for their projects, and aims to increase user engagement overall. During a panel at GDC earlier this year, OneTrueFan's Eric Marcoullier expressed his view that gamification has the potential to be a positive force in the games industry.
