Plain Vanilla Games, the Reykjavik, Iceland mobile game studio behind the hot iPhone game QuizUp, said Friday it has raised $22 million in venture capital funding. This latest round, led by Sequoia Capital, is the largest yet for Plain Vanilla, and brings the studio's total funding to $27 million. The investment will be used for the studio's "continued growth and expansion." The free to download game, supported by in-app purchases, launched in November and has over 5 million users. The average user spends 30 minutes in the app per day, according to a press statement. "The popularity of QuizUp has been as exciting as it has been overwhelming," said Thor Fridriksson, founder and CEO, Plain Vanilla Games in a statement. "We built social elements like messages and discussions into the social trivia network from the beginning because we wanted to help people connect over shared interests. But we've been blown away by the number of people who are already creating communities in QuizUp to discuss and debate their passions."
