Mobile game developer Imangi Studios has revealed that its endless-running smartphone game Temple Run has been downloaded over 20 million times since it launched last year. The game was released for iPhone and iPad in August 2011 as a paid 99c app, and sees players being chased through an ancient temple by evil monkeys. After the game was made free in September, the number of game downloads rocketed. Talking to technology website TechCrunch, Imangi co-founder Natalia Luckyanova explained that the game now sees 7 million daily active users, with 1 percent of users paying for in-app purchases. Temple Run is currently the top free and top-grossing iPhone app on the entire Apple App Store, and is receiving over 500,000 downloads a day. Previously Imangi has released smartphone games such as Harbor Master and Max Adventure. The company is also outsourcing an Android version of Temple Run due to be released next month. "[The App Store is] a very hit driven business, and a hit like this really funds your studio for years," explained Luckyanova. We're trying to keep it going by updating the game on a regular basis with new power-ups and characters to keep people engaged."
