Newsbrief: Lucasfilm announced today that it has renewed its Star Wars licensing deal with the Lego Group, meaning the latter can continue to produce toys and video games based on popular franchise. The Lego Group originally acquired the rights to Lucasfilm's Star Wars franchise back in 1999, and the first Lego Star Wars game was released in 2005. The Lego Star Wars video game series has now sold more than 30 million units worldwide. This new licensing deal allows the Lego Group to utilize the Star Wars brand for the next 10 years. In a statement, Lego's VP of entertainment Jill Wilfert said that the company considers Lego Star Wars to be "a core Lego franchise."
