Maltese Government To Create 100 New Jobs In Digital Gaming Sector

A new agreement between the local government of Malta and online games and multi-media production startup company TRC Family Entertainment will create 100 new jobs in the entertainment sector. The Maltese government said that it is looking to develop more high-value jobs through the digital games industry, and noted that the sector is "a key component within the creative industry in Malta." TRC will develop a "fully fledged" game, ready for digital distribution in the U.S. market two years from now. As part of the agreement, the company will recruit for 100 new positions over the next two years. Overall, the company is looking to invest over $6 million in Malta, and is also relocating its intellectual property, which it estimates will cost $18 million. As part of the announcement, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech revealed that Chris Deering (pictured), formerly CEO for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has been appointed as 'Special Envoy for the Digital Gaming Industry' in the country. "Malta Enterprise is supporting TRC Family Entertainment Limited through on-the-job training and also bursaries which shall go to a local training institution following negotiations done by TRC and a local institution," explained Fenech. "In doing so, we are ensuring that local Maltese talent is grown and nurtured paving the way for more projects to flow into Malta on the basis of this experience."
