Game developer, publisher, and middleware provider NaturalMotion has seen some real success with its latest iOS game, CSR Racing, as the title pulled in more than $12 million in its first month. The racing game launched six weeks ago on June 28th, so it's too early to say whether it'll maintain that success, but CSR Racing is currently the top grossing title on the iTunes App Store worldwide, and is the seventh consecutive NaturalMotion-published title to hit the charts. CSR Racing was developed by the UK-based studio Boss Alien, and NaturalMotion has decided to acquire the company so it can create even more titles for mobile platforms. Before it ever created or published its own games, NaturalMotion was best known for providing middleware solutions like Morpheme and Euphoria, the latter of which has been used in popular Rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption. In 2009 and 2010, the company tried to get into the sports game business with Backbreaker Football, an iOS and console release that showed off the capabilities of NaturalMotion's animation software. While the game performed reasonably well on mobile, reviews for the console versions were less than favorable. Since then, NaturalMotion has debuted other mobile titles like My Horse, Backbreaker 2: Vengeance, and Jenga, and the company says that the recent success of CSR Racing should help it grow its business, particularly in the UK.
