Neil Burger, the new director for the upcoming Uncharted movie, has said that he will not be using previous director David O. Russell's screenplay, and will instead be taking inspiration directly from the video game series. Russell's version of Uncharted cast actor Mark Wahlberg in the starring role, with Robert Deniro and Joe Pesci targeted for supporting roles. The former diretor dropped out of the project in May due to creative differences. In an interview with Crave Online, Burger said he is looking to bring in a whole new cast, and working the storyline from the video games into the film. "I haven’t seen [Russell's] screenplay on it. Mainly we’re beginning from scratch and going back to the video game. Because there's a lot of cool stuff, actually, from the video game," he said. "It’s really one of the most cinematic video games, and one that has really developed characters," he continued. "So, you know, there’s a lot of cool, really intense things that, if they work for the film's story, I want to use them." When questioned reagrding whether he plans to bring Internet favorite Nathan Fillion in to play the role of Nathan Drake, Burger explained, "I think he’s a good actor. I think there’s a lot of really good actors who don’t even look like [Nathan Drake] who could play it!" "Where we are right now is that we’re literally starting from scratch on the screenplay, and I think that once we finish it, then we’ll go to actors and see who’s available and who’s right for the parts."
