Atari has confirmed that the next installment in the Chris Sawyer-originated RollerCoaster Tycoon series is coming to Nintendo 3DS next year. In development from Florida-based studio n-Space, it's the first time the series has been available on a handheld console. RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D is a brand new game, rather than a port of a previous title from the series. The title will include many of the features from previous titles, including the "Coaster Creator" option, while also introducing new elements such as "Coaster Story," which will use tutorials and park challenges to create a narrative story. Additionally, players will be able to select "Park Sandbox mode," which provides action more similar to the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon titles. There's the added option to share your parks with other players. Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari, said in a statement, "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D marks the return of one of the most popular game franchises and delivers an innovative, robust and unrestricted theme park simulator to the next generation of Tycoon fans." Last year, Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, picked up the movie rights to RollerCoaster Tycoon, and plans to adapt it into a live-action/CGI hybrid film.
