Nintendo has announced [PDF] that Tatsumi Kimishima will be its new president, replacing Satoru Iwata, who passed away on July 11, aged 55.

Kimishima will take the reins on Wednesday, relieving the pressure on creative and technological chiefs Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda, who'd been tasked with running the company since Iwata's unexpected passing.

An experienced and well-respected member of the Nintendo team, Kimishima began his journey at The Pokémon Company, where he was appointed representative director in December 2000. Since then, the new president has held a variety of roles, taking on the mantle of CEO of Nintendo of America in 2006 before becoming managing director of the Japanese giant in 2013.

Nintendo believes Kimishima's appointment will "strengthen and enhance" its management structure.
