Greg Martin, the artist behind some of the most iconic video game box art in history, including the early Sonic the Hedgehog games, has died. The sad news comes via the Nintendo Age forums, where a user who knew Martin well spelled out his impressive career. He began as an artist at Hanna Barbera, before moving on to the work for companies like Nintendo and Sega, creating gorgeous airbrushed paintings by hand. Martin created iconic box art for numerous high-profile games throughout his career, such as Sonic 2, 3, CD, Spinball and Chaos, Pac-Man, Landstalker, The Flintstones, and Duck Tales 2. It's well worth visiting the Nintendo Age forum post to see dozens of examples of his best work.
