Probe Software and HotGen co-founder Fergus McGovern passed away over the weekend, aged 50. 

News of McGovern's passing was broken by Crystal Palace Football Club, where the game developer was a board member for over 15 years. According to Develop, McGovern's death was caused by a cerebral blood clot that occurred during a transatlantic flight. 

McGovern's long career in the industry began back in 1984 when he founded Probe Software - a studio that would find success working on high-profile franchises including Mortal Kombat and FIFA, as well as creating successful licensed games such as the Die Hard and Alien Trilogy. 

Probe would eventually be sold to Acclaim in 1995, prompting McGovern to co-found toys and games company, HotGen, which entered the mobile arena in 2011 with the launch of To-Fu Fury.

Outside of video games, McGovern poured time and money into a number of charities, and was granted the Freedom of the City of London for his selfless work.

McGovern leaves behind his his wife Deanna and his three children, Abby, Ryan and Ella.
