PlayStation 3 Sells 51.8M Total Units Worldwide, PSP 71.4M Units

At a Gamasutra-attended conference in Tokyo today, Sony revealed overall worldwide sales figures for both its PlayStation 3 console and PSP handheld, with 51.8 million PS3s and 71.4 million PSPs sold.

At a Gamasutra-attended conference in Tokyo today, Sony revealed overall worldwide sales figures for both its PlayStation 3 console and PSP handheld. The PlayStation 3 has sold a total of 51.8 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2006, the company revealed. In comparison, its PlayStation Portable has sold over 71.4 million units worldwide since its initial release in December 2004. This includes sales of all models, including the ill-fated PSP Go. Back in June, Microsoft revealed that it had sold a total 55 million units worldwide, while its Xbox Live service had over 35 million members. Sony announced at Gamescom last month that a new model of PSP is due to be released this Fall. The new model will come without wi-fi support, and will be available in Europe for 99 euros.
