The team behind game-tracking application Raptr has released details of the most played games of 2011, naming The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as the most played game of the year overall.

The team behind game-tracking application Raptr has released details of the most played games of 2011, naming The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as the most played game of the year overall. The data is based on activity automatically tracked from Raptr's more than 10 million users, on both console and PC. The application revealed that Skyrim also took the prize for most played RPG title, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the most played shooter. Other top-played games include Batman: Arkham City as most played open-world game, FIFA Soccer 12 the most played sports game, The Sims Social as most played social game, and L.A. Noire as most played new IP. DC Universe Online picked up the title of most successful paid to free-to-play game, having seen one million registrations in its first week after going free-to-play. Dennis Fong, CEO of Raptr, explained, "2011 is turning out to be a boon for gamers, and our awards highlight how gamers are investing the most amount of their precious time playing every day."
