Similar to devices such as those in Apple's iOS line, Sony will place a limit on the size of files that can be downloaded to its upcoming Vita handheld over 3G, the company recently confirmed. Speaking to Japanese magazine ASCII (as translated by blog Andriasang), a Sony representative confirmed that downloads over 3G will be limited to 20 megabytes per file, the exact same limitation that Apple provides. According to the source, this limitation is only confirmed for the system's launch window, and could change in the future. Additionally, no file size limit has yet been revealed for the system's release in western markets. Like the iPad, Sony's Vita will be sold in two hardware configurations: one that supports both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, and a lower-cost model that is limited to Wi-Fi only. When the system launches in Japan on December 17, the 3G service will be through that region's NTT DoCoMo, and will be accessible through prepaid cards. When it comes to the United States in 2012, 3G services will be provided by AT&T, though neither company has announced a pricing model at press time.
