Industry veteran Anthony Gowland, previously a designer at Rockstar Games, has opened a new indie studio in Edinburgh, UK, called Mainly About Games. During his six year stint at Rockstar, Gowland worked on a number of hit titles, including lead design roles on Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Red Dead Redemption. The development studio will focus on mobile and web games. Gowland said that now was "the perfect time" for him to start up his own micro indie company. "With the varied distribution opportunities now available to developers, it felt like the perfect time to move away from AAA development," he explained. "It's totally viable for a small team, or even a single dedicated guy, to create and market a successful game independently." Gowland will also be offering consultancy services as part of his studio.
