Sega Opens New UK Studio, Focused on PS Vita Development

Sega announced this morning that it has opened a new development studio in the UK, with members of the original Sega Racing Studio already on board. The company closed the Racing Studio back in 2008, and over 40 of its employees moved over to Codemasters. However, six people stayed on at Sega as part of the Sega Technology group. Those six now make up the newly formed studio which is, as of yet, unnamed. Speaking to news site Develop, Sega West's Gary Dunn explained, "That team has been used internationally to support Sega studios on technical work - and these guys know their tech very well. They have worked with new hardware like 3DS, PS Vita, Kinect, Move and Wii U." "I am genuinely excited about the prospect of opening another studio at Sega, particularly one co-located with our Technology Group," he continued. "We have seen some great and truly innovative prototypes coming out of the designers, artists and tech staff that form our Technology Group, and we fully intend to keep innovation at the heart of the new studio by keeping close links with the Technology Group who will ensure that this happens." The studio is currently looking to recruit 15 developers to join the current six, and will focus on developing games for the upcoming PlayStation Vita. Last month, Sega-owned Creative Assembly announced that it was opening a new studio in the UK, with plans to have around 200 staff within the year.
