The first project developed as part of Need for Speed: Shift creator Slightly Mad Studios' new crowdfunding scheme has now gone live, along with the platform itself. Racing game C.A.R.S. launched today via funding initiative World of Mass Development, and allows players to carry out a career in racing, with the likes of karting and rally driving available. Groups of players can join up together and create racing teams, then co-operatively compete against other players as driver and co-driver duos. Over 10 game modes are included, covering a wide range of motorsports, and players are able to create their own events and share them online via a special cloud-based social network. First revealed last month, the World of Mass Development network is now also available to join, and the organisers say that the idea is to allows developers to connect with their audience more easily. Ian Bell, head of WMD, explained, "WMD transforms the way games are created. By connecting the creators with the players rather than the publishers, traditional overheads and a focus on release windows/financial quarters/marketing etc. shifts back to concentrating on making great games that people want to play whilst still getting proper QA and funding."
