Letting players mod games means they can create new experiences or adapt existing ones in ways that grow player engagement, numbers and extend the life of a game.  Simulators are one of the types of game most suited to modding.  So extreme driving simulator SnowRunner is now trialling a Creator Rewards program to see if this supercharges modding for the game.  The Program is a way to thank creators while also incentivising more and better mods.  It's an innovative approach, so it will be interesting to see what lessons this creates for other game developers.

Modding on  SnowRunner has been very popular, with over a million mods downloaded from mod.io within a month of launch.  The program currently cash prizes to up to 10 modders each month, and can be adapted based on player/mod maker feedback.    Full details can be found on the mod.io blog
