Square Enix has posted financial results for the first half of the current fiscal year, reporting a fall in revenue compared to last year, but a notable rise in profits. The company explained that significant sales of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which launched in August of this year, had helped it achieve these results. The game previously shipped over two million copies within a month of release. Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, said, "The Group's favorable results included the major title release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution which shipped over two million units, as well as increased billing revenue from growth areas such as content for the web, smartphones, and social networking services." "As I stated at the start of the year, we are focusing all efforts on rebuilding the Group businesses during the current fiscal year toward generating a substantial earnings recovery from the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013 and beyond." For the six months ended September 30, 2011, the Digital Entertainment sector of the company, which includes video games, revenue of ¥29.4 billion ($376.5 million) was recorded, down 16.2 percent compared to the same half last fiscal year. In comparison, profits in the sector were up 20 percent year-on-year to ¥7.8 billion ($99.9 million). Overall, the company posted revenue of ¥57.5 billion ($736.4 million), down 15 percent year-on-year, and profits of ¥3.7 billion ($47.9 million), up 115 percent year-on-year.
