Newsbrief: Ubisoft plans to start selling Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry, the downloadable content pack for Assassin's Creed IV, as a stand-alone downloadable game later this month. The game will be available for $15 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on February 18, and on Steam a week thereafter. Other than the $5 increase in asking price, there appears to be no meaningful difference between the stand-alone version of Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry and the $10 DLC version that was released last November. It's an interesting move by Ubisoft -- if this practice of spinning off meaty DLC packs as downloadable games proves profitable, we could see a variety of brief, $10-$20 titles from AAA studios entering the market in the near future.
