A new employment survey from analytics outfit Creative Skillset has shown the UK games industry has fewer female employees than any of the region's other creative industries. 

Overall, the survey shows that the British games industry has grown during the past three years, with the total number of estimated employees rising to 10,300 in 2015 from 5,500 in 2012.

Only 19 percent of the those employees, however, are women. 

Considering women currently make up 51 percent of the UK population, and 45 percent of the UK workforce, it's a figure that proves there's plenty of room for improvement.

Yet, it's also a number that highlights a small step in the right direction since 2012, when just 14 percent of industry employees were women.

It's also worth pointing out that, according to the latest data, women currently hold 27 percent of the video game industry's management and executive roles. 

Still, the UK games industry has a long way to go if it hopes to match other sectors in terms of gender diversity, with women making up almost 50 percent of the British film and television sectors' entire workforce. 

The latest Creative Skillset survey was conducted in collaboration with 104 game industry partners and employers, who were asked to report their total number of employees along with information relating to how many of their staff members are women or from Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups. 

Employment estimates were then calculated by applying unspecified "appropriate weighting factors", and cross-referencing with "secondary data sources."  As such, it should be noted that data from previous years isn't considered as accurate as recent findings.
