Today Vice Media announced that Giant Bomb's Austin Walker would be joining them to launch a new games-focused site.

Speaking with Variety, Walker expressed an interest in expanding the site's coverage beyond previews and reviews, though he's yet to fully decide on a style and staff for the site. "We’re not just interested in products, we’re interested in people and culture," Walker tells Variety. "We’re interested in going a little bit deeper into a game or a game community.”

Vice's games coverage had previously been relegated to its tech-focused site Motherboard.

Walker announced his departure from Giant Bomb during its post-E3 streaming show last night. It's a bit of a sudden departure, given he only joined the company about this time last year.

Vice's announcement arrives shortly after Rolling Stone announced it would be launching its own new games-focused site Glixel, which also promised a focus on "games culture" over the traditional coverage of games.

Walker also informed Variety he intended to hire “diverse collection of voices” for the new site. As Walker put it, “More than having a lot of people, we want the right people."
