We're playing Sonic Mania and talking about what makes it a successful Sonic game at 3PM EDT.
It’s been quite some time since the heydey of Sonic the Hedgehog. While the Adventure games have garnered their fans over the years, Sega’s mainstay mascot seems only able to win praise from the critics when he does exactly what he did back in the ‘90s.
So it only seems natural then that as Sega prepares to release Sonic Forces it also drops Sonic Mania, a throwback to the days of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. And as we’ve been playing the game, it turns out this is a winning formula.
With that in mind, today at 3PM EDT, we’re going to be streaming Sonic Mania on the Gamasutra Twitch channel to talk about what makes the game such a delight, and share our thoughts on the pitfalls Sonic still faces if he wants to keep his job as a game industry mainstay.
