This week on "Best Of Indie Games," we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The goodies in this edition include a Gauntlet-like dungeon crawling brawler, an action-oriented take on the tower defense genre, a side-scrolling puzzler in which players use portals to traverse long distances, plus a comedic adventure title that documents the life of a reluctant college freshman. Here's some recent highlights from IndieGames.com: Game Pick: 'Frutorious' (Infinite State Games, commercial indie) "Frutorious sports brilliant stop-motion animated graphics based on some rather silly plasticine models (with bits of felt), and plays quite a bit like the unholy spawn of Angry Birds with your favourite 80s platformer of choice." Game Pick: 'SWOOOORDS! Colon Lords of the Sword' (Kenneth Backus, browser) "SWOOOORDS! is a challenging title in which players have just one life to survive waves of procedurally-generated dungeons and enemy mobs. While the web version is single-player, the downloadable edition supports cooperative play for up to four players." Game Pick: 'Defenders of the Last Colony' (Knitted Pixels, commercial indie) "Defenders of the Last Colony presents an action-oriented take on the tower defense genre. Enemy swarms must be destroyed using a twin-stick setup, and between waves, players can construct barriers to defend the colony." Game Pick: 'Gateways' (Smudged Cat Games, commercial indie) "Originally released for Windows back in March, Gateways is a side-scrolling puzzler in which players use portals to traverse long distances, flip gravity, and even travel through time to solve environment-based puzzles." Game Pick: 'Kingdom of Liars 1' (Hyptosis, browser) "Set within the land of Ashbane, Kingdom of Liars 1 will have you investigating some rather criminal happenings and making acquaintances with a variety of strange creatures." Game Pick: 'Life in the Dorms' (Moment Games, commercial indie) "Developed by Office DisOrders creator Ted Hung, Life in the Dorms challenges players to settle into dorm life while solving puzzles, keeping up with social networking, and avoiding a literal axe-wielding psychopath of a roommate."
