The Witcher studio CD Projekt RED has unveiled the next evolution of its proprietary REDengine, days before the company is rumored to be unveiling its next video game project. The REDengine is designed and built in-house to support CD Project's specific graphical needs, and the company says that this third interation will bring "a new level of realism" to its upcoming titles. The REDengine 3 focuses on creating open environments with multi-thread storylines, no doubt in an attempt to build on the elements that made The Witcher 2 so popular. Players will be able to roam freely around a game world without loading times, says CD Projekt, with the aim to keep levels of immersion at a maximum. The engine also offers realistic face and body expressions, making character interaction more realistic. The company's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 will utilize the updated engine. It's also notable that a recent teaser trailer for the game hinted at a new game announcement on February 5, and that if this were to be the case, this title would no doubt also make sure of the REDengine 3 -- although CD Projekt refused to comment on the announcement to Gamasutra.
