Game developers handy with Unreal have a shot at claiming some portion of the $60,000 prize pool Epic Games is putting up for architectural blog Ronen Bekerman's upcoming "The Vineyard" Unreal Engine 4 visualization challenge.
This is well in line with Epic chief Tim Sweeney's fondness for promoting the Unreal Engine as a useful tool for industries beyond games, among them film production and architectural planning.
"We're really seeing these different worlds come together now," Sweeney told Gamasutra earlier this year, forecasting "huge opportunities for sharing between these non-gaming fields" as Unreal became free for everyone to download.
Epic now seems to be pouring some of its resources into pushing those worlds together more quickly; "The Vineyard" challenge is the sixth such competition Ronen Bekerman has held, but the $60k Epic is putting up (part of its $5 million Unreal Dev Grants fund) will be the largest prize pool these competitions have ever seen.
"The Vineyard" challenge will see competitors tasked to visualize a winery in Unreal Engine 4; it begins on June 15th and runs for three months, with the winners announced this October in Italy. For more information on the competition and how to take part, head over to the Ronen Bekerman website.
