This week saw the release of a wide variety of indie games from a wide variety of genres. One of them, The Long Dark, was sort of a re-release, as it marked the game’s departure from Early Access, and the launch of its new story mode.

We’ve been keeping an eye on The Long Dark for the last few years, so today on the Gamasutra Twitch channel, we sat down to play the final released game and see what its story mode added to the experience. As it turns out, it’s a vital tutorial process that helps ease players into the broader survival sandbox experience.

If you’re curious about this new gameplay for The Long Dark, we’ve recorded our stream from today and embedded it above for your convenience. If you want to watch more of the Gamasutra editorial team’s interviews and gameplay analyses, you should also follow the Gamasutra Twitch channel.
