Location: Bristol, England
Job Title: Creative Director
Contract: Staff
Full Time: 37.5 hours per week, worked 9.30am – 6pm
Salary: depending on experience
Start Date: June 2016
Come Join Aardman! We’re looking for an exceptional person with mind-warping ideas. You’ll likely be into telling stories, playing games, and making kids giggle. You’ll be obsessed by all things digital, and particularly intrigued by the unknown murky bits lurking somewhere between storytelling and interaction. As the characters and worlds we build for ourselves and our partners no longer live neatly within simple broadcast-able stories we’ve been working to understand and create new places for them to live. We’re hugely passionate about gaming and as such we’re looking to build bigger, ground-breaking games… so if you’re a game designer with the desire to tell epic stories, experiences that change the way people think and feel, get in touch.
Role of the Department:
The Digital team here at Aardman Animations create all of our interactive products. Aardman works to put characters & storytelling at the heart of everything we make, so within the digital team we spend time finding new homes for these characters in current and emerging digital spaces such as gaming, apps & the web. Our humble ambition is to be the world’s greatest interactive storytellers. The majority of our work is created with partners, building products for clients such as BBC, Disney, British Council and Penguin Random House. The rest of our work involves creating our own characters, and occasionally creating some of our own independent products.

Main Purpose of the job:
You’d be joining a team of Creative Directors, supported by the Group Creative Director. In this role you will be responsible for a number of individual projects – from the generation of an idea through to its full creation, spanning both new business and live projects. For new business this requires the moderation and facilitation of idea generation, successful communication of these ideas, advising on timings and developing an idea through to proposal and presentation. Once a project is live you’d be leading on creative, usability/playability and strategic direction, working closely with the Producer to deliver products to the exceptional quality expected from Aardman.
The role requires excellent creative thinking and communication skills and a deep passion and knowledge of all things digital. This passion should be infectious, inspiring the team to push boundaries, and be the best they can be.
Building on our previous successes we plan to expand our gaming business so are looking to strengthen our Creative Director team with a deeper knowledge of game production, for this reason experience in game design and production would be a benefit, but is not essential.
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years commercial experience in a digitally focussed environment. For more information on this position, please see the attached role profile.
