Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima will be honored at The Game Awards 2016 with the Industry Icon Award.

The prize will be presented to Kojima, who will attend this year's ceremony, at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on December 1.

Due to a well-publicized dispute with former employer, Konami, Kojima was unable to pick up the statue for Best Action/Adventure Game won by Metal Gear Solid V at last year's show.

This time around, The Game Awards says its keen to honor the veteran auteur "properly in front of his peers and fans."

Since his split with Konami, Kojima has re-established his own studio, Kojima Productions, and pulled back the curtain on its debut title, Death Stranding
