Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
I run an independent game development studio, after having been a game dev for a few years and shipped a few titles...here is my response to a recent "application."
Hey Dude,
Just a quick response, here are a few tips for landing that hard to find, competitive gig in the games industry that hundreds of your peers are competing with you for:
Create a comprehensive and high-quality portfolio site showcasing your best work. It’s not enough to say you have done great stuff, you have to show it.
Have a resume that is tailored for the game industry, showcasing both your professional career and your game or mod work. Again, show people your best stuff!
Don’t send late-night, admittedly drunken, rambling emails to the head of the company you want to work for.
Don’t refer to the Studio Manager as the “HR Girl.”
If you truly have created great things, you will get hired if you continue to apply yourself and follow the tips I provided above. They served me well over a decade ago when I struggled to get into the games industry. Just don’t give up.
Thanks,
