Screenshots depicting non-functional 1-day and 7-day rental options for select games on PlayStation Network are circulating online today in the wake of Sony's most recent weekly PlayStation Store update, which was delayed due to technical issues. Images posted to NeoGAF and Twitter suggest that some PSN users were presented with novel checkout options for the digital version of Atlus' PS3 game Catherine -- instead of a "Buy" button, they were able to select "Choose a Version" and open a menu that allowed them to choose between paying for the full version or "renting" the game for free, for either one day or a full week. However, the rental options were reportedly non-functional. This isn't too surprising, given that Sony announced earlier this year that digital game rentals would be a part of its upcoming PlayStation Now service. The service has been in closed beta testing for some time now. Gamasutra has reached out to Sony representatives for verification and further comment on these images.
