Sometimes, the best ways to design artificial intelligence in games run counter to expectations of what "good AI" should look like.

At GDC 2016, Insomniac's Jan Mueller gave a great talk on the topic that used examples from Sunset Overdrive and other games to challenge 3 common misconceptions about AI in games.

From underrating unique, one-off behaviors that sell your AI characters to challenging the understanding that "ally AI" should always be helping the player in some way, Mueller offered fellow devs some new, novel perspectives on what good AI in games looks like.

It was an intriguing talk, even if you're not an AI programmer, so if you didn't catch it during GDC don't miss your opportunity to now watch it for free on the official GDC YouTube channel!
