Designing realistic artificial intelligence for video games is tricky business for many reasons, not least of which because you typically want to build an AI that plays like a crafty human, not a robot.
That means designing human-like logic systems, and Intrinsic Algorithms' Dave Mark believes that developers can learn a lot from studying the way that humans design rules and systems around a bluff-heavy game like poker.
As part of the popular Turing Tantrums 'rant' session during the Artificial Intelligence Summit at GDC 2015, Mark (a veteran game designer and AI developer) discussed his newfound love of poker, some of the logic required in playing the game, and how it relates to AI problems that game developers have to consider daily.
