Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions CE's multiplayer PC action FPS Battlefield 2, the long-awaited sequel to Battlefield 1942, has been met with a few problems since its release, the most severe of which has come about as a result of a patch intended to fix the original bugs. The version 1.01 patch, released through EA late last week, causes as many problems as it solves, according to online reports introducing such issues as severe memory leakage in servers hosting the game, and teammate names being incorrectly colored as enemies. In an official statement released this weekend, Electronic Arts has asked players to uninstall and reinstall the game to cancel the deleterious effects of the v1.01 patch, assuring those affected that "reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics." According to the representative, the DICE team is currently working on a fix for the 1.01 patch: "Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed." Server operators are also being asked to revert their software to its original state to prevent the memory leak issues. No estimated release date for the fixed patch has yet been given by EA or DICE.
