Ubisoft and developers Gearbox Software have announced that its Brothers In Arms WWII franchise will be landing on both the DS and the Wii this summer and fall, respectively. So named for its combination of "all 31 playable levels" of the two original Brother In Arms iterations, Brother In Arms Double Time will be coming to the Wii this fall with console specific enhancements. Thus far, Gearbox and Ubisoft have announced that the Wii version will see a new control scheme that will allow players to issue orders and perform military gestures to command your squad in close-quarter urban environments using the Wii Remote. Similarly, the DS version of the game, thus far called Brothers In Arms DS, will be specifically designed to take advantage of the handheld's features with stylus-based controls such as touchscreen aiming. Rendered in full 3D, the DS version will feature 16 missions and 3 campaigns, drivable vehicles like a recon car and Sherman Tank, and four-player multiplayer modes, including deathmatch and team deathmatch, though no word as yet whether the multiplayer is local or WiFi based. Gearbox has also said that the game will provide an 'unrivalled sense of drama' due to its unique third-person perspective, and that auto-cover behind walls and an 'auto-recovering life system' will be handled through contextual movements. Said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, “Brothers In Arms on the Wii and DS systems is really exciting for us. I am a huge fan of both systems and thrilled about making games for the two platforms. In the entire space of first-person shooters on video game systems, Brothers In Arms really lends itself to both the Wii and DS interfaces. Imagine using the Wii Remote to give actual hand signals or aiming with the DS stylus from a covered position. That’s what you can look forward to with Brothers In Arms Double Time and Brothers In Arms DS.”
