City of Wonder, CrowdStar Titles Lead Fastest-Growing Facebook Games

Gamasutra's bi-weekly look at the fastest-growing Facebook games examines the recent popularity of Disney and Playdom's City of Wonder, alongside increases from three titles created by CrowdStar.

[Every other week, Gamasutra examines the fastest growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.] Disney/Playdom's City of Wonders, is once again at the top of the list this week as it's audience expanded 20 percent to 10.7 million monthly active users. Launched two months ago, the fast-growing civilization-building sim picked up 1.8 million of that total in just the past seven days. CrowdStar took the next three spots, seeing the best performance from its recently debuted It Girl, which invites players to "pick out the hottest events and attend the most exclusive events and make [their] way to the top of the pack". The new game gained 1.6 million new followers in the last week. Virtual pet game Happy Pets took #3 with 1.3 million new users, a 17 percent increase contributing to a 1.3 million total, while virtual fish game Happy Aquarium at #4 welcomed 1 million new players, a 9 percent jump helping raise its audience total to 12.3 million. Digital Chocolate's Millionaire City is #5 with 626,253 new users and an almost 7.9 million total, followed by Ludia Inc.'s The Price Is Right (+546,226, 2.4 million total), Electronic Arts' Madden NFL Superstars (+486,315, 891,271 total), and Digital Chocolate's MMA Pro Fighter (+438,601, 3.1 million total). Zynga pops in briefly at #9 as Texas HoldEm Poker adds 411,588 new card players for a 34.9 milion total. And at #10, GSN's Games portal for casual and social titles has 299,340 new players, reaching an audience total of nearly 7.4 million.
