Gamasutra's bi-weekly look at the fastest-growing Facebook games examines the recent popularity of strategy sims like Disney/Playdom's ESPNU College Town and Digital Chocolate's Millionaire City.
[Every other week, Gamasutra examines the fastest growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.] Disney and Playdom's ESPNU College Town, in which players build a virtual university and manage its sports teams, is currently Facebook's fastest-growing game, gaining more than 1.1 million monthly active users in the past week. Launched late last month, the sim now has 2.9 million players. RockYou's Birthday Cards -- a gifting app that hardly qualifies as a game but is listed as one anyway -- is No. 2 on the list, followed by Digital Chocolate's Millionaire City. The city-building title gained almost 800,000 monthly users in the last week and has a total audience of 11.1 million monthly players. Zynga's fantasy strategy title Warstorm is ranked No. 4, picking up 776,982 gamers for a total of 2 million. After that, we have Funzio's Crime City (675,365 new users, 1.3 million total), InstantAction's Instant Jam (646,373 new users, 689,892 total), and Mytopia's Bingo Island 2 (470,703 new users, 1.1 million total). It Girl, the recently launched competitive RPG from CrowdStar that's enjoying an ARPU four times higher than the studio's previous titles, is the No. 8 gainer with 388,226 players joining in the past week. The game's total monthly audience is currently around 4.6 million. Cie Games' Car Town made it to No. 9 after driving 378,462 new players to its 5.9 million total, and Zynga's Mafia Wars took No. 10 as it absorbed 338,008 virtual mobsters into its gang of 22.1 million monthly active users.
