The latest UK game sales chart has seen no change in the top two selling titles, with PlayStation 2 exclusive Final Fantasy XII and Xbox 360 exclusive Crackdown remaining the best selling games in the country. The highest new entry is at number three, with the latest expansion for the The Sims 2 on PC performing extremely strongly, even without any home console versions. The second highest new entry of the week is Sega’s Wii exclusive Sonic and the Secret Rings at number five, which, just as it has received a more positive critical response, also appears to have performed better at retail than last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog on Xbox 360. Outside of the top ten, the other new entry of the week is movie and comic book license Ghost Rider at number twenty-four. This week’s charts are perhaps most notable though, for the strong performance of Nintendo titles, with Brain Training (aka Brain Age) re-entering the top ten alongside last year’s New Super Mario Bros. Despite the UK traditionally being regarded as a soft market for Nintendo, the company has the greatest number of titles of any publisher in the top forty, with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess up twelve places to number fourteen, Excite Truck on the Wii up three at nineteen and WarioWare: Smooth Moves up nine places to number twenty-nine – all thanks to increased hardware availability of the Wii. A number of older Nintendo DS titles have also re-entered at the bottom of the top forty, with Nintendogs: Labrador & Friends at number thirty-one, Animal Crossing: Wild World at number thirty-two, Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends at number thirty-three, Big Brain Academy at number thirty-eight, Mario Slam Basketball at number thirty-nine and Mario Kart DS at number forty.
