Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 has entered straight in at number one in the UK video game charts, becoming the second Xbox 360 exclusive in the top ten – with other format versions due in subsequent weeks. Although also a sizable hit, the original Advanced Warfighter did not reach the number one spot, despite selling more than 10,000 more units than the sequel in its first week. Although both games were released at a similar time of year, the less than twelve month gap between the two appears to have had some effect on overall sales. Despite sales dropping by more than 50 percent, Final Fantasy XII still easily held on to second place, ahead of the budget priced release of the PlayStation 2 version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Already something of a sales disappointment on the PSP, compared to the previous iteration, the game seems likely to see the smallest sales of any modern entry in the franchise on the PlayStation 2. Elsewhere in the top thirty, Nintendo has once again proven the number one publisher, with Wii Play re-entering the charts at number seventeen after a countrywide restock. The continually improving hardware situation for the Wii also appears to have helped exclusive Sonic and the Secret Rings enjoy a strong second week of sales – moving up one place to number four. The only other new entry of the week is Nintendo DS game Mario vs. Donkey 2: March of the Minis at number thirty-two, giving Nintendo a total of eleven first party titles in the top thirty although only one in the top ten.
