Free-to-play, browser-based MMO Heroes of Gaia has reached over 1 million active users and more than 10 million play sessions on Flash gaming portal Kongregate since the title's launch 11 months ago. According to publisher Snail Games USA, the online strategy game has the most play sessions out of all the massively multiplayer online titles on the site, as well as the most play sessions for any game available on the portal. In Heroes of Gaia, players choose from four warring factions (Human, Undead, Elf, and Orc), build castles in a fantasy setting, recruit armies, take on quests, and engage in Player versus Environment, Player versus Player, and Guild vs Guild battles. Kongregate, which was recently purchased by GameStop, hosts more than 30,000 titles and receives over 10 million monthly unique visitors -- those users spend over 23 million hours playing free titles on the portal each month. The company shares revenues from ads and virtual goods directly with more than 8,500 developers. "Heroes of Gaia has been a top performer for us from the moment we launched it," says Kongregate CEO Jim Greer. "We're looking forward to offering Snail Games upcoming browser MMO, Ministry of War, to the Kongregate community soon."
