Pokemon Ranger Catches Japanese Chart Success

A raft of new releases, coinciding with a national holiday celebrating the vernal equinox, has jolted the Japanese charts back into life with one of the busiest weeks of the year so far. The most successful new release, by a considerable margin, has been the sequel to action role-playing spin-off Pokemon Ranger on the Nintendo DS, with almost a quarter of a million sales in its first week. The second highest new entry of the week is Hudson’s Deca Sports for the Wii, whose similarity to Wii Sports has helped it gain 65,000 unit sales in its debut. At number three the next highest new entry is giant robot simulator Armored Core: For Answer on the PlayStation 3 with 54,000 unit sales. The Xbox 360 version also appears in the charts at number thirteen. At number four Electronic Arts enjoys a rare top ten position, with the second SimCity game for the Nintendo DS, which saw 49,000 unit sales in its first week. It is not the company’s only title in the top thirty though, with Army of Two on Xbox 360 at number twenty outselling the PlayStation 3 version at number twenty-two. New at number six is a PSP port of PlayStation 2 role-playing game Tales of Rebirth with 47,000 unit sales. This is followed by the latest anime tie-in for Crayon Shin-chan on Nintendo DS at number eight with 35,000 unit sales. Rounding out the top ten is Konami’s adventure game Time Hollow, also for the Nintendo DS, at number ten with 34,000 unit sales. Elsewhere in the top thirty, Sakura Wars spin-off Dramatic Dungeon is new at number eleven on Nintendo DS, followed by PSP puzzle title Echochrome at number twelve. Arc System Works’ Super Dodgeball Brawlers debuts at number seventeen on Nintendo DS, followed by Sega’s The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return on Wii at number nineteen and Namco Bandai anime license Kekkaishi: Kubourou Shuurai on Nintendo DS at number twenty-five.
