Microsoft has announced that Konami's hit platformer Castlevania: Symphony of the Night will be released in its next regular Xbox Live Arcade update on March 21st, the first PlayStation game to make the leap to the service. Symphony of the Night, the 12th volume in the Castlevania series takes a twist in the usual franchise formula by letting players play exclusively as Alucard, the half-vampire son of Dracula, after a playable guest role in Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. More RPG- and adventure-like than its action-based prequels, Alucard collects weapons, armor, and a multitude of items, shapeshifting powers, and familiars as he re-gains lost power through the course of his journey through Dracula's castle. For its Xbox Live Arcade debut, the game has been given an upgrade in the form of an enhanced mode with improved graphics and "modernized audio and sound effects," with the option to play in the original mode as well. The game will also support native widescreen and high definition graphics, and includes the usual amount of achievements. The game will be available March 21st, as part of Microsoft's regular Wednesday Xbox Live Arcade updates, and will be sold at 800 Microsoft Points ($10).
