The winners of the 2006 GSM Association Awards were announced at a celebration in Barcelona, Spain, at the National Palace. The awards recognize achievements in the field of mobile phones, ranging from mobile content to handset design to marketing and promotion. The "Best Made for Mobile Game" award went to I-Play for the GamEvil-developed title Skipping Stone, which is "it's a one-button casual game [in which] all you do is charge up your throw, then attempt to skip a stone across a lake by rhythmically tapping the button as the rock splashes down." However, unlike many categories in the awards, the Mobile Game prize featured no runners-up, called "Highly Commended" in the GSM nomenclature. Other awards went to Cognima's ShoZu for Best Mobile Messaging Service, Motorola's RAZR V3x for Best 3GSM Handset or Device, and MTN Nigeria Communications Limited's "Rural Telephone Project" for Best Mobile Community Service or Initiative. "This year’s Awards reflect the diversity, the vitality and the changing dynamics of our industry as the content and communications worlds converge," said GSM Association CEO Rob Conway. "We are at the beginning of a new era of multimedia, entertainment, music, gaming and TV, in which GSM plays a starring role. Our congratulations to the winners and our thanks to everyone who participated."
