2K Games today announced that two downloadable content packs and a final gameplay patch for BioShock 2 would be released for the PC version of the game, reversing a decision announced earlier this month to withhold the PC release. The PC versions of the Minerva's Den and Protector Trials DLC, which have already been released for the console versions of the game, were halted mid-development because of "technical and timing issues," according to a forum post by 2K Games' Marketing Manager Elizabeth Tobey. But after an outcry from PC fans of the game following the announcement of that decision, the company has decided to resume efforts to get the PC content ready for Microsoft certification in the coming weeks. "One of the core principles of the 2K Games community is to keep an open dialogue with gamers and listen to what they have to say," Tobey wrote. "We are a company of gamers making awesome experiences for gamers - and given the conversations we've had over the past two weeks, we've decided to go back and finish the PC patch and [DLC]." The Minerva's Den DLC received critical praise for it's addition of a strong complementary narrative on top of core story for BioShock 2, which has seen strong sales since its release earlier this year. In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Minerva's Den DLC writer and designer Steve Gaynor also touched on the difficulties and compromises that come with DLC development. "There are some things you have to live with; 'this is going to be here because we need it to be here, but it's going to be de-emphasized,'" he said. "We have to pick our battles when doing something as small as the DLC."
